The Square That is Really a Circle

St. Peter’s *Square* is really a circle of colonnades designed by Bernini in the 1600’s.   It is only a square in the sense of a meeting and gathering place.  Currently there is a fair amount of construction around the sights I tried to see in Rome, including St. Peter’s Square.  I had hopes of getting this beautiful, iconic architectural artwork captured in a photo.  Unfortunately, there is an obtrusive block of scaffolding in the way.

See, they even light up the monstrosity at night so there really is no getting around it.  What is also interesting are the chairs.  Do they ever move the chairs and the barricades?
